Detailed Description

Design and Build Quality

The Epos 28N features a meticulously crafted enclosure with a slightly tilted cabinet to enhance time alignment. The bass drivers are housed in a carefully braced bass reflex compartment to minimize colorations, while the midrange driver operates in a dedicated enclosure with a triangular backside to reduce reflections. The front panel is a 50mm thick multi-layer construction, ensuring rigidity and minimal resonance.

The bottom-firing port is tuned to 30Hz, utilizing a 30cm-long tube with pressure-equalizing holes to reduce resonance. Whether placed on spikes or directly on the floor, the design ensures optimal bass response.

Acoustic Performance

The ES-28N delivers an expansive soundstage with deep bass, smooth mids, and an airy treble. Voiced for realistic tonality, it balances low-frequency extension with midrange clarity. The impedance curve is carefully compensated for better amplifier matching, making it an excellent choice for tube amplification.

Distortion remains exceptionally low, with measurements showing levels below 0.2% THD between 100Hz and 10kHz at 86dB SPL.

Bass Driver

The twin 7" bass drivers share design elements with the ES-14N but feature a straight cone for better low-frequency control. A reinforced dust cap enhances stiffness for fast and impactful bass. The hybrid ferrite and neodymium magnet system stabilizes the voice coil inductance, ensuring low distortion and minimal crossover modulation.

Midrange Driver

A 5.25" (130mm) midrange driver derived from the ES-7N utilizes a mica-filled polypropylene cone, delivering clarity and control. The voice coil is wound on a glass fiber/epoxy former, operating within a double-magnet system to reduce stray fields and improve linearity.

Tweeter

The 28mm aluminum/ceramic compound tweeter is shared with the ES-14N and ES-7N, ensuring a cohesive high-frequency response. A high-efficiency ferrite magnet system and optimized airflow prevent compression, and the tweeter is free of ferrofluid, ensuring long-term stability.
