Design and Build Quality

The ES-14N remains faithful to the legacy of the original ES-14 while incorporating modern advancements in speaker design. The cabinet volume matches the original model, ensuring optimal driver performance. The front baffle is tilted to time-align the drivers, while an innovative rear-firing port with internal damping minimizes airflow noise and unwanted resonances. The front panel features a 45° chamfer to reduce diffraction effects, ensuring a balanced upper midrange response.

Acoustic Performance

At the heart of the ES-14N is a custom-designed 7" woofer, optimized for use in a ported enclosure. Its Polypropylene cone, combined with a low-hysteresis rubber surround, delivers exceptional dynamics and low coloration. The 36mm voice coil, wound on a TIL former, ensures excellent linearity and low distortion, aided by a precisely engineered magnet structure.

The 28mm tweeter employs an Aluminum/Ceramic compound dome without Ferrofluid, preserving the natural openness of the high frequencies. By eliminating Ferrofluid, the tweeter maintains its responsiveness across different listening levels, reducing dynamic compression and enhancing detail retrieval.

Advanced Crossover Network

The ES-14N benefits from an advanced crossover design, leveraging modern insights into electrical filtering. The woofer is designed for minimal impedance variation, avoiding modulation effects that can color the sound. An air-core inductor eliminates core distortions, while a dedicated notch filter suppresses the tweeter’s high-frequency peak for a smooth and linear treble response.

Optimized Impedance for Amplifier Compatibility

With an average impedance of over 6 Ohms and a compensated midband response, the ES-14N is an easy load for most amplifiers, including tube designs. Its minimum impedance of 4.3 Ohms ensures stability without placing excessive demands on the amplifier.

Custom Stand for Optimal Performance

A dedicated stand is available for the ES-14N, constructed with a four-layer wooden core and a double-layer steel top plate, featuring a Bitumen damping layer for vibration control. The bottom plate incorporates adjustable spikes for stability. While the ES-14N can be used with other 55cm high stands, the dedicated stand is recommended for the best acoustic performance.
