Low Mass Pocan® Body

The Goldring 1022GX cartridge features a one-piece body made from ultra-rigid, glass-reinforced polyester called Pocan®. This material ensures the fixed parts are securely in place and allows the cartridge to be bolted tightly to the head shell for optimal sound quality. The user-replaceable stylus carrier slots tightly into the body with a locating pin to prevent unwanted vibrations. An integral mu-metal can shields the generator parts from hum-inducing magnetic fields, ensuring a high strength-to-mass ratio and a total mass below 6.5g.

High Efficiency Magnetic Circuit

This cartridge utilizes finely etched mu-metal laminated to form pole pieces, around which are fitted two formerless coils of four thousand turns each. This design reduces mass and creates an efficient magnetic circuit that produces a higher-than-average output. The construction also minimizes high-frequency loss, resulting in a smooth and extended frequency response.

Reduced Moving Mass

The 1022GX cartridge incorporates an ultra-low-mass, micro-miniature Alnico V magnet made to a unique tolerance. This magnet is welded to a gold-plated nickel tie-bar, which provides an earth path for vinyl static charge build-up and stabilizes the cantilever against unwanted vibrational modes. The entire low-mass assembly is mounted in a butyl rubber polymer with optimized damping characteristics.

Expert Adjustment

Precise azimuth adjustment, or horizontal tracking angle, is crucial for maintaining a proper stereo sound stage. The azimuth must be exactly perpendicular to the record groove to avoid channel imbalance and increased crosstalk, which can degrade the stereo image. The Goldring 1022GX cartridge is factory-set to ensure precise azimuth, a feature not typically user-adjustable on budget decks.
