Q Acoustics Qi fire and acoustic hoods are designed to enhance the safety and acoustic performance of in-ceiling and in-wall speaker installations. These hoods are essential for maintaining the fire rating integrity of the ceilings they are fitted to, and they also help reduce the transmission of sound between rooms.

Key Features

  • Maintains ceiling fire rating integrity
  • Reduces fire spread between floors
  • Reduces rear sound transmission by up to 10dB

Detailed Description

Legal Requirement and Safety

Fire and acoustic hoods are often legally required in new buildings to enhance fire safety. They are particularly crucial for speakers installed below habitable rooms and escape routes. These hoods help resist the spread of fire through building floors, ensuring better safety for occupants.

Fire Rating Maintenance

The hoods maintain the fire rating of the ceiling, ensuring either a 30-minute or 60-minute fire rating as required. They have been tested at the UK Building Test Centre and comply with Part B and Part E of UK building regulations. Reports of these tests are available upon request.

Acoustic Integrity

Installing speakers in ceilings or walls can lead to unwanted sound transmission. Fire and acoustic hoods restore the acoustic integrity of these installations. They reduce rear sound transmission by approximately 10dB over the mid to high-frequency range, although additional treatments might be needed for low (bass) frequencies.
